Creative Balance Wellbeing Festival: Access INFORMATION

About the Venue

Civic House is a cultural and event space in Glasgow. The festival takes place across the ground floor, with access to outdoor spaces.

Getting There

Address: Civic House, 26 Civic Street, Glasgow, G4 9RH

Opening: 10:30am

Communication Access

BSL interpreters will be available for multiple spaces throughout the day. Live captioning will be provided for all talks and performances. Captioning screens will be visible in the Venue Space and Project Space.

Entrance and Pathways

Main entrance: Level access via the main doors. The entrance has LED lighting throughout. A platform lift (stairlift) is available, serviced weekly and operates during emergencies with battery backup.

Entrance hallway: Uneven paving and lower light levels. Additional lighting is being assessed.

Outdoor pathways: The green space has some bumpy and uneven surfaces. The courtyard has non-slip decking.

Lighting and Climate Control

Lighting: LED throughout the building (warm white, 2700K). Emergency lighting with battery backup in all areas.

Heating: Ground floor: air source heat pumps with local controls. First floor: gas central heating with adjustable thermostats.

Ventilation: MVHR system across the building with F7 anti-allergen filters. Tilt-and-turn windows throughout for manual ventilation.

Note: Exploring additional heating solutions for the small project space.

Fire Safety and Evacuation

Platform lift: Battery backup continues operation during fire alarm. Serviced annually with full LOLER certification.

Evacuation chair: Available on site.

Emergency lighting: Functional in all areas.

Toilets and Facilities

Accessible toilet: Larger toilet with smooth floor, manual door with handrails, and space for manoeuvre.

Gender-neutral toilet: Available (smaller turning space).

Air freshening: Natural air freshening products used (95% naturally derived ingredients, free from dyes and propellants, recyclable bottles).

Changing Places facilities: Being explored as an option.

Workshop Spaces

Venue Space (main): Large, bright, flexible space. Carpets fixed to floor with safe, temporary adhesive for wheelchair safety.

Project Space: Bright during daytime, conference-style layout. Not soundproofed.

Container Courtyard: Dance and movement workshop space with non-slip decking. Weather covering available.

Canteen: Bright and airy during daytime. Double doors kept open with door stoppers throughout the day.

Quiet and Accessible Workspace

A dedicated quiet and accessible space is available during the festival for break-out time or to manage access support needs.
