The land always remembers

The land always remembers is a mixed media interrogation of our relationship to the outside. Through photography and poetry, the artist attempts to move beyond extractive practices and instead seeks to nurture a mutual relationship of learning and caring for the natural world. The artist invites the audience to imagine a world in which nature is viewed as companion, collaborator and guide. For millennia, the outside has served as a longstanding muse for humans. Think of the cave drawings of animals in Sulawesi, Indonesia and Kilmartin Glen, Scotland and how our ancestors brought the outside into places of refuge, telling stories of great hunts and sacred grounds.

The land always remembers draws upon this ancient custom situating the natural world in an age of hyper stimulation, digital overload, and techno anxiety. It asks whether the “outside” might offer us all the balance we yearn for, affording us a reprieve from our phones and enclosure, and reminding us of all the lessons contained in our flora and fauna.
