SALMA

Biography

Originally from Tanzania, East Africa, based in Glasgow, Dance Artist Salma has taught and performed with multi-generational communities in Scotland. Previously volunteering in South America as a Human Rights Ambassador, her current practice explores how she can adapt choreography for her mature body.

She has recently completed  BSL (British Sign Language) Level 6, and aspires to become a registered BSL interpreter. She has choreographed a unique dance language using BSL to explore non-verbal communication, similarities within diverse cultural contexts, and challenge silence through the portals of connection, empathy, and shared vulnerability.

She continues to find narrative in her practice, inspired by shared experiences. She champions equality,  honours legacies, and embraces the gift of mentors past and present.
